You build your business around a tool, and then the email arrives: the price is going up.
It happens to working photographers all the time. A tool you depend
on raises its price, usually after a bigger company buys in. The plan
you budgeted your year around changes under you.
What I do instead: $79 is the price and I have no
plans to change it. If that ever changed, I’d tell you well in
advance, and you’d have the whole notice period to decide what
suits you. It would never turn up as a surprise on an invoice. The
first twenty-five to go Pro keep $25 for as long as they keep their
subscription, and I’ve signed a dated pledge on that. Two things
stay the same regardless: zero commission on your sales, and a free
tier that stays free.

A tool you trusted changes hands, and the support gets worse.
A good tool gets popular and gets sold. The new owners start treating
the photographers who depended on it as a line item. The product still
works, but it stops improving for you. Replies get slower and new
features stop coming.
What I do instead: I’m one person in Sydney and
I built this, so for now, when you email or leave a note from the help
button in the app, you get me. My reply lands under your question. There’s no
board, no investors waiting on a return, and nobody above me to answer
to. Whatever Tellisto turns into later, you can always leave with your
work. Your clients, leads and bookings export to a spreadsheet whenever
you want, and every delivered gallery has a full-resolution download.

You log in one day, and your older galleries have been hidden.
A gallery isn’t a file you tidy away. It’s the day someone
got married. But plenty of tools treat finished work as temporary.
They run an inactivity clock that can hide a gallery after a year or
so, just because you were busy with the next shoot.
What I do instead: your galleries stay live for as
long as you keep them. There’s no inactivity clock. Clients who
want their own long-term copy can keep it in the Client Vault, renewed
each year, whether or not you’re still in business. The
pricing page explains more, because the Vault
also pays you.
The three promises
1 Zero commission, alwaysnever a percentage of what you charge
2 Your work leaves when you dospreadsheet exports and full-resolution gallery downloads
3 Your galleries stay liveno inactivity clock, nothing hidden after a year
