Invoicing

Photography invoices with GST built in, paid straight to your bank.

Invoices are numbered in order and GST is calculated properly. Each one has a pay link your client can open and pay on the spot, and Tellisto can chase the ones that sit unpaid once you switch reminders on.

We take zero commission on your sales, on every plan, always. That's a promise.

What's inside

Live now, and included on every plan.

  • Proper tax invoices in Australia and New Zealand. Each studio's invoices are numbered in order, GST is rounded the way the ATO specifies, and B2B tax invoices over $1,000 include the recipient details they need. The B2B recipient details for invoices over $1,000
  • Totals lock when you send. A sent invoice is a record, so it doesn't change afterwards.
  • Every invoice has its own pay link, so the client can pay as soon as it arrives, from their phone, without making an account.
  • PayID and bank transfer payments go straight to your bank. The money never passes through Tellisto, and you mark the invoice paid in one click.
  • A big job doesn't have to be paid all at once. Put an invoice on a payment plan and the client pays it off in instalments, with a reminder for each one once reminders are on.
  • On any invoice, you can show one total instead of every line, when an itemised price would invite a haggle you don't want.
  • Someone paid you in cash on the day? Record it against the invoice. Recorded it against the wrong one? Remove it. Payments get messy in real life, and the software should let you fix them.
  • See what you've billed, what's been paid and what's outstanding at a glance, so working out what you're owed takes a look, not an afternoon.
  • At the end of the financial year, the tax summary adds up what came in, year by year. It downloads as a spreadsheet Xero accepts, so your accountant gets one file instead of a folder of PDFs.
  • Line items come straight from the booking's packages, or you type them in. The invoice stays linked to its shoot, so each one shows the other.

How it runs your week

What it changes about an ordinary week.

You stop chasing money

The invoice goes out with its pay link. If you switch on reminders and the client ignores it, a polite reminder follows. The receipt sends itself when they pay. Sending and chasing have separate switches. You can send invoices by hand and still let Tellisto do the chasing, or turn either off. Every email carries your studio's name. You did the shoot, and you shouldn't have to chase the payment too.

Let them pay in instalments, and release the photos on the last one

A five-figure wedding is easier to say yes to in instalments. Put the invoice on a plan and the client pays it off over months, with each instalment reminded by Tellisto instead of by you. Link the gallery to the invoice and the final payment releases the photos. You don't have to chase the last payment, or awkwardly hold back someone's wedding photos while you wait for a transfer to clear.

GST right on both sides of the Tasman

In Australia, GST is rounded the way the ATO specifies. Your ABN is checked against the register, so your registration status is right from the first invoice. In New Zealand, GST is 15%, your IRD number goes on every tax invoice, and the NZ$60,000 threshold wording is included. You don't need to understand any settings. Enter your business number once, and every invoice you send gets the right tax treatment.

Paid straight to you, in full

Your client opens the pay link and sends the money to your bank by PayID or transfer. The money never passes through Tellisto, so nothing is taken out along the way. There's no platform cut on any plan, ever. You mark it paid in one click, the receipt sends itself, and your records stay accurate.

Frequently asked questions

Questions photographers ask

Are these proper tax invoices, or just nice-looking PDFs?

Proper ones. Each studio's invoices are numbered in order. In Australia, GST is calculated and rounded the way the ATO specifies. In New Zealand, it's 15% with your IRD number on the invoice. A business invoice over $1,000 includes the extra recipient details it needs. We built them as tax documents first and made them look good second, because that's the order your accountant cares about.

Do you take a cut of my invoices?

No. We take zero commission, on every plan, always, however your client pays. With PayID or bank transfer, nothing sits in the middle, so what the client sends is what you get. Card is the only payment method with a cost, and that fee is the card network's, not ours. We don't add a cent to it.

Can my clients pay by card?

Yes. Connect your Stripe account and you can switch on card payments for each invoice. Know this before you start: the processing fee comes out of what you receive, and current Australian rules don't let you add it back as a surcharge. So build it into your prices. If your rates already include the fee, card payments cost you nothing extra, the same way your rates already cover editing time. Anything a client pays by PayID is then a small bonus, because PayID costs you nothing. Tellisto takes nothing on either. Card isn't offered in two cases. One is when you haven't connected Stripe. The other is an invoice on a payment plan, because a card charge takes the whole invoice at once. In both cases your invoices use PayID and bank transfer, as they did before.

Do I need an ABN or NZBN?

Yes, one of the two. A tax invoice has to name a real business, so you need your ABN in Australia or your NZBN in New Zealand to send one. Add it once and every invoice you send is compliant from the first. Registering for GST is a separate question, and you don't need to be registered.

What if I'm not registered for GST?

Then Tellisto leaves GST off. You still need an ABN or NZBN to send an invoice, but GST registration is separate. An unregistered sole trader can send correct invoices today, with the right tax treatment on each line. Turn GST on the day your registration comes through.

Can I send a quote first?

Yes, and the quote does more than show a price. Build it straight from the enquiry and send it. When the client accepts or pays it, Tellisto sets up the job for you. The enquiry becomes a client, the booking is created, and the first invoice is made with it. Turning a yes into a real job in your diary usually takes an evening. Here it takes one confirmation.

Can a client pay a big job off over time?

Yes. Put the invoice on a payment plan and it splits into scheduled instalments. Switch on reminders and Tellisto chases each one, so you're not the person chasing every month. That can be the difference between a wedding couple saying yes now and saying maybe. Instalments are paid by PayID or bank transfer, so a plan costs you nothing in processing fees. Card isn't offered while a plan is running, because a card charge takes the whole invoice at once. If you link the gallery to the invoice, the last instalment releases the photos. You don't have to watch your bank account on a Sunday night to know when to send them.

Can I hide the individual prices from my client?

Yes, on any invoice. Keep the descriptions and show a single total, so your client sees the job, not a list of prices to argue over one by one. Your own copy still shows every line, and the tax treatment is the same either way.

Someone paid me in cash on the day. Does that break anything?

No. Record the payment against the invoice and the balance updates like any other payment. If you record it against the wrong invoice, you can remove it again. Payments sometimes arrive in odd ways or get recorded in the wrong place, and the software should let you fix that.
